Many people make one big mistake. They believe God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality. False! Yes, it’s true, the Scripture clearly and unapologetically portrays homosexuality as an “abomination.” However, according to the same scripture, fornication and adultery are just as abominable as homosexuality. Murder, lying, stealing or idol worshiping are all repugnances. There were gays in all parts of the world. If God was going to destroy over that, why destroy ONLY two cities? If you read the story, you will see that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of RAPE.
They had developed a culture that was predominantly, indiscriminately and overwhelmingly centered on abuse. Women and men alike. In fact, Scripture shows that in some cases, rape victims tried to negotiate with the rapist. They offered consensual sex by providing their wife, sister, mother, daughter, concubine, slave or other family members. Instead of raping the attacker had a choice to have someone to sleep with them consensually. It’s like a burglar who invades your home but instead of stealing from you, you gift your assets to them. But the burglar rejects the gift and insists on burglarizing your home.
The aggression of taking your assets by force is what’s thrilling to them, not the asset itself. It was a choice of either rape or murder. Often, prophets, emissaries, children and unsuspecting foreigners fell victim to this. Whenever there was new blood in town, a mob showed up demanding that the new blood is given to them so that they will violate them. Therefore, God became angry and decided to destroy these two cities. Usually, a prophet would be sent to warn, teach or inspire change but rapists of Sodom and Gomorrah would rape the prophets. That was not a gay problem.*
